Bud Light is a beer with a fairly decent history in the U.S. It’s been around since 1982 after Anheuser-Busch decided to compete with Miller Lite. The competition worked and Bud Light has regularly outsold its competitors since its launch.
Anheuser-Busch has been in the United States since the 1850s when the creator came to America from Germany and started his own company. He started with a regular Budweiser beer but had to change in the 1980s to keep up with growing trends.
Around the 1980s, diet culture started to grow. People began to ditch beers to reduce their calorie consumption. The trend of light beers such as Coors Light, Miller Lite, and Bud Light started here and doesn’t show any signs of going away and diet culture and lower calorie foods and snacks become more and more popular.
For the last 20 years, it’s been the most popular beer in the U.S. In 2019, over 27.2 million barrels were sold. The next popular beer, Coors Light, only sold 14 million barrels in the same year. One of the reasons it’s so popular is because it only has four ingredients; water, barely, hops, and rice.

You know that Bud Light is low in calories, but what about alcohol content? A Bud Light has 4.2% alcohol. This puts it at the same percentage as Guinness and Dos Equis.
The 4.2% is a little lower than you would get with a normal Budweiser, but not by much. A regular Budweiser has 5% alcohol content.
With most common brands of beer having somewhere between 4% and 6% alcohol, this isn’t actually all that bad. Some brands go down to about 2.5% alcohol, and some go all the way up to 18% for their canned beer, but most reside happily in the range of 4% to 6%.
